On Foot to tap into Live Music across Southern Pines
By Mary Giglio
On any given Friday or Saturday night, you can find live music in Southern Pines. Several diverse venues host live entertainment within walking distance of each other which makes the downtown feel urban, uptown and alive.
For the Early Crowd:
WINE CELLAR Live Music Friday and Saturday 7:00 to 10 p.m. A beautiful facility with indoor and outdoor spaces to relax and talk with friends. Always featuring new microbrews and vintages, the wide selection of wine and beer is enhanced by a knowledgeable staff that will help you find something interesting to delight your palate. 241 NE Broad St
Late Night:
BELL TREE TAVERN Live Music Friday and Saturday 10:00 pm to 1:30 am. After the dinner crowd leaves, Bell Tree Tavern transforms from a restaurant to a chill, late night hang-out spot with something for everyone. The high-top tables or booths are the perfect place to post up with friends to hear the band. If it’s a nice night the outdoor stage is a hit with room to dance or congregate or even play cornhole with friends. Cover is typically $5 for a band, and sometimes $3 for an acoustic soloist, low overhead that goes directly to support local music. 155 NE Broad St
THE JEFFERSON INN In addition to weekends, the Jefferson hosts live music from 8:00 to 11:00 pm Wednesdays and Thursdays, or 9:00 pm to midnight Fridays and Saturdays. As often as possible, the music is on the outdoor stage with a large outdoor seating area enclosed by a cozy brick wall, trees and foliage with magical twinkle lights and an outdoor bar. If the music is inside, there is a dance floor that fills up quickly as the night goes on! The bartenders are pros at handling the busy crowds and don’t deal with nonsense, so make sure you know what you want before you get in line! 150 W New Hampshire Ave
O’DONNELLS Live music times include Friday and Saturday night bands starting at 10pm, and Sunday on the Patio from 4 to 7pm. O’Donnell’s Irish-style Pub is one of the most well-loved establishments in Southern Pines. The bands here are usually lively because if it’s not a good time, no one will pay attention! If you want to get on stage and work the crowd, look for Live Band Karaoke dates or come to Thursday Open Mic. This place is cozy and you will meet new people easily. There is a strong military presence and a generally relaxed vibe. Pool tables and patio tables become social hubs. People end up here at the end of the night and usually don’t want to leave because it’s so much fun. The O’Donnell’s crowd is down for anything. 133 E New Hampshire Ave
NEVILLE’S Times for live music vary depending on the band, the night and the time of year, so check their social media or just show up! This private club is a friendly, relaxed music venue with room to dance or listen while you play pool. Neville’s seems to attract a niche crowd of locals. Great interior spaces for gathering and socializing, the club also has an outdoor patio with TVs. Whether it’s Tuesday Karaoke or a late night on the weekend, by the end of the night at Neville’s, it feels like you are in a living room with friends all around and each of you has experienced at least one “Omg, this is my song!!” moment. 130 W New Hampshire Ave
